Lake Erie & Wine

Lake Erie & Wine

My husband and I enjoyed some very warm weather, I guess more hot and humid, for a week at Lake Erie. We also had the opportunity to try a quite few of the local wineries. I'll mention some of the ones I really had a nice time at based on atmosphere and of course, how much I liked their wine offerings.

Laurello Vineyards

Laurello's is the first winery that impressed me. The inside was nice and cozy, low lit, and wasn't very busy, albeit we were there in the afternoon. We got a quiet corner all to ourselves and it was very relaxed. Along with wine, we got an appetizer of warm fluffy bread with dipping sauces: olive oil & balsamic with herbs, and marinara. I did a tasting of a semi-sweet selection. The wine that blew it out of the park for us, was their ice wine. A vidal blanc called Sweet Genevieve. It was very sweet! Since it had honey notes, it very much reminded us of a mead but with some lush fruit flavors.

Rosabella Winery

Rosabella has nice bright freshness inside with all the natural lighting that comes in with loads of local art that features the well-known longest covered bridge in the country (unfortunately we didn't take the chance to go see ourselves, maybe another time). This bright freshness really reflects well in their wines as well. You will notice a pattern here already, but I chose some mainly sweeter white wines here, along with one red. The stand out for myself and the hubs was the Happy Couple wine, haha imagine that? Seriously though it has a sweet tropical flavor with kiwi, banana, and pineapple! Yum!

 Cask Three Oh Seven

Cask 307 is pretty big in size and it had some neat wines to try, they even let you sample their ice wine! Ice wine seems to be a pretty popular wine over in Geneva. I'm pretty sure almost each winery we visited had one, but we only tried two. Most places you would have to order a glass or even a bottle in order to try it! Cask 307's ice wine was wonderful but the truly unique wine we sampled was the bourbon chardonnay. It was light with a bourbon finish! Very delightful! They also seemed to offer some brews as well if wine isn't up your alley.

Stonegait Winery

Stonegait is very large and open on the inside, the first thing that hits you when you walk in is the smell of wood fired pizza, too bad we had plans for dinner already! They had a decent wine selection but what stood out was how open it was with a fireplace right in the middle!

Hundley Cellars

You do not want to skip out on Hundley Cellars for a wine tasting! They have a great selection of wines and you will more than likely find a wine that suits your tastes here. On top of that you can see their vines right outside behind the building. You can sit outside next to a little pond facing the rows upon rows of grapes, isn't that (grape) great! Heheh.

Thanks for giving this a read! As always take care and stay hydrated!
